Country Study: Peru

Peru is a dynamic country rich in history, geographically diverse, and abundant in biodiversity. Above all, Peru is a country of people who, throughout history and in present day, strive to innovate. We can look to Peru to understand how ancient civilizations developed and how modern existence is the summation of human knowledge from the people who lived before us. In Peru, we can see how people adapt to geography and how culture is profoundly influenced by geography. Peru gives us a window into a country with strong ties to its heritage and, at the same, time strong ties to the future working to promote a strong social and economic foundation.

I had the privilege of traveling to Peru in the summer of 2016 through the Fulbright-Hays Program. This curriculum project reflects my classroom practice and how I incorporate Peru into curriculum for my students. I hope that other teachers find all of parts of this curriculum useful.
