Case Study: Global Education in Finland
In 2013, on my quest to understand how global education could look in classrooms, including my own, I discovered the inspiring book Schools Reaching Out to a Global World. Published in 2011 by the Finnish National Board of Education, this volume explores the possibilities of how global citizenship and competencies could live in Finnish classrooms across the country.
Through the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program, I was awarded the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pursue an inquiry project inspired by Schools Reaching Out to a Global World entitled “Global learning: Fostering knowledge, attitudes and skills for global citizenship: How do teachers in Finland engage students in learning for global competence?” This section of this portfolio features my research project process, observations and discoveries. |
